Abstract Aims Mastectomy is established as a safe day-case procedure. Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic it essential to find ways continue elective surgery with greater efficiency. The aim of this study establish factors associated overnight admission after simple mastectomy, enabling more effective pre-operative planning. Methods All patients undergoing mastectomy in our unit between January and October 2020 were included. Those immediate reconstruction excluded. electronic case notes reviewed include procedure performed patient characteristics. Basic statistical analysis was performed. Results 95 underwent (28 axillary clearance 58 sentinel node biopsy). 56% procedures day-case. Axillary common inpatient compared group (24% vs 45%). Both average age ASA significantly lower (p < 0.05). There no significant difference BMI or specimen weight groups. 16 without drain insertion, none required admission. Of admitted following surgery, 50% pre-planned admissions. 57% these for identified high surgical anaesthetic risk at assessment. Overall 5 stayed hospital due preference.
